An Introduction to my Blog

Hello fellow bloggers. I want to start this blog with a little background on myself. My name is Matthew Slagle, and I come from the little town of Colwich, Kansas. I am the son of Scott and Diane Slagle, and I have two brothers named Drew and David. Being from a small town I have a stereo-typically large family. As a result, my family is incredibly important to me. It has had a great impact on the person I've become. Knowing a little about my background now though I think we need to fast forward a little bit and get to the good stuff.

I graduated from Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in 2010. My time at Bishop Carroll consisted of mainly participating in athletics such as basketball, track, and cross country. I was a good athlete but nothing extraordinary. I did well academically, and ended up being named a Deans Scholar and Barton Finalist at Wichita State. The Deans Scholar program is a scholarship program that selects fifty of Wichita's brightest students and gives them a fairly large scholarship. I also participated in the Clay Barton Scholarship Competition which is run by the business school. I was one of six finalists for that scholarship. Due to the monetary benefits of attending Wichita State I decided to become a shocker. Best decision of my life.

My experience thus far at Wichita State University has been completely unlike most of the student body. To start with the summer before my freshman year I joined a fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. Across the country fraternities are perceived in a very negative fashion, but I truly believe Phi Delt has helped me to become a better version of myself the last two years. Along with Phi Delt I am involved in the Barton International Group, Barton School Deans Ambassadors, the Interfraternity Council, Deans Scholars, and the Newman Center. All of these involvements have had a positive impact on my experience as well as causing me to be extremely busy. However, I've maintained a 3.89 GPA through my first three semesters of college, and I have started to take on leadership responsibilities within the organizations.

That has probably been the most exciting part for me. Coming into college while I was a captain in every single one of my athletic organizations I was never really a leader. I've been very excited to put myself to the test and thus far I have done quite well. I started as head of recruitment for Barton International Group this last fall and secretary for Phi Delt. This Spring I am now the treasurer of Phi Delt, Vice President of the Interfraternity Council, and Director of Human Resources for the Barton International Group. It has been a challenge along the way with several bumps, but I am very excited to see how far I have come. As our my parents. I have actually claimed favorite child status in my family which is very exciting.

Now that you have some background on who I am it is time for me to go a little more in-depth. I will be blogging over my involvements such as Phi Delt and the Barton International Group as well as tell you about future plans and ambitions related to my career in business. Thanks for subscribing!
